Raindance

Design | Advertising

Most people have negative preconceived notions about non-mainstream films. Raindance is the UK’s most important independent film festival full of exciting and unknown tales from emerging filmmakers.

Together with my copywriter partner, Jacob Gill, we created this campaign promoting the festival and luring people in by saying independent cinema isn't for them - it's only for the brave black sheep.

Keep out.

The UK’s most important independent film festival isn’t for the likes of you – it’s for the black sheep and brave. This is because Raindance has premiered rebel pictures like Pulp Fiction, Ghost World, The Blair Witch Project and Down Terrace – no sequels or CGI overload here. It’s for those who are unreservedly unalike. For those who aren’t afraid to explore exciting and unknown tales from emerging filmmakers. So, little reader, stay away and stick to the trends - there’s no room here for your pretty white fleece.

I found myself mildly infatuated with the work of David Carson and other grunge artists while working on this project. I experimented with textures, raw illustrations, and crafted an 'organized mess' that maintains balance while effectively communicating the rebellious nature of the campaign.

For those who want a story, not celebrities.
